Preflighting be Exporting PDF Files

PDF or Portable Document Format has been around for a few years now and many people still associate them with software manual replacements, documents that are downloaded from the web for a quick look at products, or even tax forms from the IRS.
Many magazines are requesting that advertisers use PDF to submit their ads for publication, but what many people are not aware of is that with the correct settings, virtually any brochure, booklet, even catalogs can be converted to PDF for printing. A common misconception is that PDF files are generally used as a quick proof of preview of a document.
Improvements in the Adove Acrobat program as well as improved handling and exporting options fro programs such as Quark XPress, Pagemaker, and InDesign have created a handy preflighting tool right inside of the applications.
In fact, a correctly distilled PDF file is one of the most complete documents you can provide to a Printing Company or Service Bureaufor outputting to film or plates. With a few quick guidelines to creating PDF's, you will master them in no time.
If you are interested in finding out more about how PDF files can make your life easier, send an email to Michael Sherwood, Cottonwood's Electronic Prepress Consultant. Mike will be happy to set up a meeting with you to discuss your particular job setup requirements free of charge, and provide you with insight to all of the current tools necessary to produce "State of the Art" PDF files right on your computer.
